COVID 19 Update

Dear friends and supporters of the Barley Mow.

We would like to say that we have been completely bowled over by the love and support that we have been shown over the last few months. We want to say a big heartfelt thanks to all of you.

Unfortunately, the government announcement was not really what we needed to hear. We had, of course, been toying and modelling out various strategies etc for re-opening, since we had closed. As most of you know, the Barley Mow is an intimate, up close and personal type of joint. And for that reason, and as things stand, we will not be re-opening on 4th July. Operating under these measures would present financial problems that could potentially prevent us opening in the long term.

We also would need to feel confident that we could monitor and police the social distancing measures, to keep both customers and staff safe.

We are missing the hustle and bustle, the live music, raucous Saturday nights, the infectious laughter (you know who you are  our special canine visitors, our special small human visitors, chef Andy’s amazing cooking… which we all enjoy, and our hardcore regulars, who of course become like the family we never asked for, sharing life’s trials and tribulations together, at the pub.

We will be back with an almighty bang, just as soon as the circumstances are right. We will review ongoing and keep you up to date.

Love from all of us… xxx

Nice review in The Times!

Matthew Parris, a fairly frequent visitor and supporter of the pub gave us a lovely little write up in his recent column in The Times!… Cheers Matthew! Who doesn’t love a packed, raucous and explosive one-roomed pub in the deepest, darkest Derbyshire? Free cheesy chips next time you come in. 🙂

Barley Mow Voted 3rd Best Live Music / Real ale pub in Derbyshire!

Barley Mow makes 3rd place in top 10 live music / real ale pubs in Derbyshire.

“Landlady (and singer) Colette Dewhurst was quick to note that her pub wasn’t in the top ten cosy list but it can’t be left out of the music list. Small, intimate and atmospheric. You’ll need a driver but it’s worth the trek”
