The Barley Mow is home to the official World Hen Racing Championship, which takes place on the first Saturday of August every year.
The event has won international acclaim, and has featured in many TV documentaries in this country and abroad. It has been televised live on Sky TV and the BBC countryfile report of the Hen Race has been screened three times, as well as appearing in the national press broadsheets such as the ‘Guardian’ and the ‘The Times’.
