Welcome to our wonderful little pub….the Barley Mow at Bonsall, probably the best pub in the world! The Barley Mow is a family owned and run pub, located in the beautiful and picturesque Derbyshire village of Bonsall, situated on the edge of the Peak District, which is near to several other interesting areas of interest including the historic market town of Bakewell, and the World Heritage Centre, Cromford. The area is a haven for many outdoor pursuits, such as walking, climbing, caving, cycling and you can stay in a variety of different accommodation in the village – self catering cottages, B&B’s, Guesthouses etc all available online.
The pub is over 200 years old, and is steeped in history and has many interesting stories to tell! Currently, it sees and sells itself as a small, quirky, boutique and fairly bohemian pub, with a great and well earned reputation for several things. A well kept and interesting range of real ales and cask ciders, generous portions of home-cooked and locally sourced food, an interesting, varied, friendly and welcoming gang of regulars, poetry nights, open mic nights, Film Night, French speaking club, Vinyl Nights, Jazz Nights, and the most amazing free and live music and entertainment. This is topped off with the kind of incredible atmosphere money simply cannot buy.
We are also a Freehold, which means we are free to sell what we like and do what we like, and also means every pound you spend here (gratefully received) will probably be going towards paying for drumming lessons for our kids or buying them new school shoes, and not generating dividends for shareholders, like the majority of soul-less multi-national pub companies.
Everybody, and we mean, everybody is welcome here, and we all go out of our way to make you feel at home as soon as you come through the door. We love children at the pub, so much so that we may absolutely insist that we look after your unsettled baby while you eat you meal in peace! Well behaved dogs, goats, chickens (especially of the racing variety, the Barley Mow being the home of our annual and internationally famous event – World Championship Hen Racing) and donkeys also welcome.
So for a life less ordinary, why not pay us a visit, and see for yourself why the pub is so loved.
Hope to see you soon.
